Die jüngste Komposition des niederländischen Pianisten und Komponisten Joep Beving ist eine musikalische Meditation über eine Welt im Aufruhr. Doch Pax, benannt nach dem lateinischen Wort für Frieden, steht im sanften Gegensatz zu den zerstörerischen Tendenzen der Menschheit. Das Stück für Klavier solo, nun digital erhältlich, entführt seine Hörer:innen in einen Raum der Stille und Harmonie.

»Pax habe ich für den diesjährigen Weltklaviertag geschrieben«, sagt Beving. »Es ist ein Akt der Wut, nicht der Betäubung – ein Stein auf dem bröckelnden Pfad der Hoffnung.«

Bevings minimalistische Musiksprache erreicht das Herz und ein großes Publikum, unabhängig von Herkunft und Alter. Und auch »Sleeping Lotus«, »Ab Ovo«, »Ala«, »Midwayer« und »The Gift« sind ein phänomenaler Erfolg mit insgesamt mehr als 300 Millionen Streams auf Spotify. Bevings UMG-Katalog erreichte im vergangenen Jahr den Meilenstein von einer Milliarde Streams.

Deutsche Grammophon feiert den diesjährigen Weltklaviertag mit einer bemerkenswerten Reihe von STAGE+-Konzerten ihrer unvergleichlichen Pianist:innen. Zu den Höhepunkten zählt Lang Langs Interpretation von Saint-Saëns’ Klavierkonzert Nr. 2 mit dem Gewandhausorchester zu Leipzig und Andris Nelsons.

Der Weltklaviertag wurde 2015 vom deutschen Komponisten, Interpreten und Plattenproduzenten Nils Frahm ins Leben gerufen. Er findet jährlich am 88. Tag des Jahres statt, eine Referenz an die Anzahl der Tasten des Klaviers.

Pax, named after the Latin word for peace, stands in gentle opposition to humankind’s destructive urges. It transports the listener away from a world in turmoil to a space of stillness and harmony. “Pax is my contribution to this year’s World Piano Day,” Beving says. “It is meant as an act of rage, not sedation. One brick on the crumbling path of hope.”

His solo compositions, which he describes as “simple music for complex emotions”, stand among the most listened-to piano pieces on the planet. He has so far totalled over 675 million streams on Spotify alone while over 27 million have viewed his YouTube channel.

Passage, created for last year’s World Piano Day, proved an instant Spotify hit and has since received 5.5 million plays. It followed the online success of tracks such as “Sleeping Lotus”, “Ab Ovo”, “Ala”, “Midwayer” and “The Gift”, which have been streamed collectively over 300 million times on Spotify. In 2023, Joep Beving achieved the landmark of surpassing one billion streams across his UMG catalogue. He ranks today as one of the world’s most frequently heard pianists.

Deutsche Grammophon celebrates World Piano Day this year with a carefully curated series of STAGE+ concerts featuring performances from the Yellow Label’s peerless roster of pianists. Among the highlights will be Lang Lang’s recent rendition of Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Andris Nelsons.

World Piano Day was founded by German composer, performer and producer Nils Frahm in 2015. Reflecting the number of keys on a full-sized piano, it takes place annually on the 88th day of the year.
