Vor zehn Jahren stellte der damals unbekannte Niederländer Joep Beving selbstkomponierte Klavierstücke auf einen Online-Musikdienst. Das in seinem Amsterdamer Zuhause aufgenommene Album Solipsism – von ihm als »einfache Musik für komplexe Gefühle« beschrieben – berührte weltweit Millionen, erreichte Gold und bis heute über 340 Millionen Streams. Seit er 2017 einen Vertrag mit Deutsche Grammophon unterzeichnete, überschritt sein UMG-Katalog die Marke von einer Milliarde Streams – Beving zählt gegenwärtig zu den meistgehörten Pianisten weltweit.

Solipsism kam erstmals im August 2015 heraus. Zwei Jahre später legte DG das Album neu auf. Jetzt, zum zehnten Jubiläum, präsentiert Beving seine atmosphärischen Stücke in Neuinterpretationen. Solipsism Redux erscheint am 1. August 2025 digital und als limitierte Vinyl-Edition. Die erste Single »Sleeping Lotus (Redux)« wird bereits am 6. Juni veröffentlicht. Im November geht Beving auf Jubiläumstournee durch Europa, während eine im Januar im hochmodernen ConcertLab in Utrecht gefilmte Performance am 2. August exklusiv auf STAGE+ Premiere feiert.

Vor seinem Studiobesuch Anfang des Jahres zog sich Beving für zwei Tage in die Waldhütte eines Freundes zurück, um Solipsism für sich wiederzuentdecken. Manche Stücke hatte er in dem Jahrzehnt seit der Veröffentlichung häufig gespielt, andere nie. Die langsameren Tempi der Neuversionen bewahren den minimalistischen Grundton, verleihen dem kontemplativen Charakter der Musik aber eine unerwartete neue Dimension.

»Solipsism war der Beginn einer zehnjährigen Erkundung unserer Beziehung zur Realität«, sagt Beving. »Ich bin dankbar für alles, was ich dabei lernte, für die Menschen, die ich traf, und für die Ruhe, die mir diese Musik bis heute schenkt.«

Ten years ago, the then unknown Dutch musician Joep Beving posted an album of solo piano pieces he had written and recorded in his Amsterdam home on an online music service. Presenting what Beving has since called “simple music for complex emotions”, that album, Solipsism, has gone on to touch millions of lives all over the world, having achieved gold status and over 340 million total streams to date. Since signing with Deutsche Grammophon in 2017, Beving has surpassed the landmark figure of one billion streams across his UMG catalogue and become one of the world’s most frequently heard pianists.

Initially released in August 2015, Solipsism was reissued by DG two years later. Now, to mark the 10th anniversary of the original release, Beving has re-recorded its timeless, introspective tracks to create Solipsism Redux. The new version will be released on 1 August 2025, digitally and as a limited-edition vinyl album. A first single, “Sleeping Lotus (Redux)”, will be available digitally on 6 June. Beving undertakes a 10th-anniversary album tour of Europe in November, while a live performance filmed in January at ConcertLab, a state-of-the art venue in Utrecht, will be premiered exclusively on STAGE+ on 2 August.

Before going into the studio earlier this year, Beving retreated to a friend’s woodland cabin for two days to revisit Solipsism. Some of the tracks he’d played many times in the decade since its release, others not at all. The slower tempos of the resulting reimagined version, Solipsism Redux, retain his essentially minimalistic style, adding further layers to the music’s contemplative nature.

“Solipsism was the start of a 10-year exploration of our relationship to reality,” says Beving. “And I’m grateful for what I’ve learned, for the people I’ve met, and for the moments of peace this music still brings me.”
