Biggest Dutch rock band Kensington will release their new album “Time” on November 15th. Leading up to the album the band has released the singles
‘What Lies Ahead’ and
‘Bats’. To record the new album Kensington went to Canada to focus on the writing process in peace. ‘Time’ will be the successor of the # 1 album “Control” from 2016.
Kensington wrote and worked on the material in Vancouver where they reflected on the successful roller coaster the band has been on in recent years. During that period of looking back at what has happened so far in their stormy career, “Time” emerged in the forests of Canada.
“After a period of countless milestones, we thought it was time to return to the basics: to make music. Together, in a log cabin deep in the forest in Canada. Total seclusion, a different time zone and the focus that was necessary to be creative,” says guitarist Casper Starreveld. "’Time’ has become a record we are very proud of, we feel we have made another big step in both songwriting and sound. The location has certainly influenced the music: recording while the bears awake from their hibernation, taking long hikes along the Sunshine Coast for some extra inspiration, or watching the sun set behind Vancouver Island. Where we previously needed the hectic pace of the city while recording the previous albums in Rome and Berlin, we have now deliberately gone into nature so that we could concentrate on our music more than ever. ”
After “Bats”, “What Lies Ahead” is the second single from “Time”. According to Casper, it is a track with an optimistic feeling. “The video gives a good impression of the making of the album; most of the images were shot by ourselves in and around the studio. It is a track to drive towards the sunset with your window open. ”
Frontman Eloi adds: “It is an album of reflection, just standing still and observing where we are and where we come from. This process of awareness is a recurring theme in the lyrics.”
For this album the band, consisting of singer and guitarist Eloi Youssef, guitarist and singer Casper Starreveld, bassist Jan Haker and drummer Niles Vandenberg, joined forces with producer Garth “GGGarth” Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Biffy Clyro), legendary mixer Andy Wallace (Nevermind from Nirvana) and mastering engineer Bob Ludwig (Queen, Radiohead, Daft Punk).
Kensington has developed themselves over the years into the biggest band from The Netherlands. Their latest album “Control” including the singles “Sorry” and "Do I Ever achieved triple platinum in The Netherlands.
The biggest Dutch venue Ziggo Dome (cap. 17k) has been sold out ten times since 2015 and in 2018 they were the first Dutch band to completely sell out the Johan Cruijff Arena (55k capacity) in Amsterdam. Kensington returns to the Ziggo Dome for three shows on December 5, 6 and 7 this year and will tour Europe in march 2020.
